Does Autopilot hold my money?

No. Autopilot is not a broker-dealer. It does not execute trades, hold client funds, or custody client assets. You connect a third-party brokerage. Trades execute there under that broker's agreement. Public is the default and preferred partner, with a disclosed referral conflict. You may choose another supported brokerage.
